DNR | FILM | DOP Shane Hurlbut on the future on cinema and Need for speed

Various camera formats and mixing and matching is always a debate .... DOP shane hurlbut is a pioneer in this area for pushing digital where is has not got before ... Act of valour is testment to this and now in a in depth break down Shane shares his experiences and findings from shooting 'Need for Speed' on the c500 and the arri alexa ... Before embarking on a film that Hurlbut ultimately knew would require 50 cameras for its shoot, the DOP carried out an extensive camera test. “I’d never heard of anyone doing a camera test as large as we did it,” he says. “I think the budget on it was $250,000 and we tested nine formats.” Those cameras were: Hurlbut documents several of his camera tests for Need for Speed at his blog in a four-part series here and runs through the four main cameras used on the shoot in this article.
